We have some excellent accomodation for rental by owner, who will be happy to accept your pets.

Here are some tips for travelling from the UK to Europe with your dog, but it does need some planning for the trip to go smoothly.

Obviously, the first step is to obtain a Pet Passport, and your vet should be able to advise you on this. However, the most important thing to remember is that your dog will not be allowed BACK into the UK until 6 months after your dog has had its first blood test. You may travel before this date, but not return until after 6 months has passed.

The Rabies vaccine will be given to your dog, then a month later a blood test will be done. This is the crucial date to work 6 months from. When the vet receives the details of the blood test, the pet passport is ready. Make sure all the relevant boxes are marked in your pet passport , dates etc, as this is what the officials will look for as you try to leave and enter the country.

If you are travelling by plane you will need to take your dog to the vets for a health check up before heading off to the airport. Many airlines request this as they have to take responsibility of the animal in the hold. This is not required if travelling by ferry etc, as the animal is your responsibility.

Before returning to the UK, you must visit a registered Vet to have your animal wormed and de-ticked. Again the passport must be dated, and the form filled in correctly to prevent any problems. When searching for a vet ensure that they have a scanner to locate your pets micro chip, a lot of European vets do not have these as German and French dogs are tattooed instead.

The timing of your visit to the vets is again crucial , you must visit at least 24 hours before returning, but re enter the Uk no more than 48 hour later. Check the passport for the stamp before leaving , signature and product name, all are important.
