Saissac is a tranquil medieval village, spilling gently down the hillside at the foot of the Montagne Noir (Black Mountains) in the historic Languedoc region of the south of France.

We offer a quaint two bedroom stone cottage on the edge of the village, which has a south facing terrace with panoramic views of the Chateau de Saissac and 120 kms across to the Pyrenees.

The house itself is typically French with outside street parking. It has been furnished comfortably with two queen beds, quality linen, crockery and plenty of the essential wine glasses!! To make your stay ever more comfortable, there is a CD/DVD player with a selection of English movies and music, electric heating, a combo washer/dryer, a gas BBQ, coffee maker, hairdryer etc. The big sofa in the upstairs salon folds out to a double bed for overflow guests.

The House

The house is a spilt level stone structure, built in two parts about 200 years ago, with sleeping upstairs and living, kitchen and washing facilities downstairs.

Up the stairs are two large and comfortable bedrooms, each with queen size beds, wardrobe space and the other usual amenities. As well there is a lounge with a relaxing couch (foldaway double bed), plus TV/DVD /CD with English movies.

Downstairs, you will find the dining room, which exits out to the 20m² tiled deck with the gas BBQ, a small but very French functional kitchen, combined shower and laundry room, plus a separate toilet.

All living and sleeping areas have newly installed electric heating panels. Telephone and broadband access can be arranged if required.

Things to do

The village’s unique location allows guests to quietly explore the numerous and historic Cathar Castles of the region, including Europe’s largest medieval fortress in Carcassonne (Le Cite). We are close to the world renowned Canal du Midi, an hour from the Mediterranean, and only 90 minutes from Spain, the Pyrenees and Andorra. Discover the local markets, the vineyards and good restaurants in the area. For the outdoors enthusiast, there are walks, lakes and trails to explore. Information booklets are in the house to maximise the enjoyment of the area during your stay.

Driving access is convenient as the house is a one hour drive from Toulouse, an international airport serviced by all major airlines and EasyJet. The airport at Carcassonne, only 15 or so minutes from the house, is used by Ryan Air for flights from the UK and other European cities.

Saissac offers all essential amenities – a French bakery/patisserie, a traditional restaurant - right next door, a butcher, a mechanic, two superettes, a pharmacy, a doctor, dentist, hairdresser, plus a café/bar which serves hearty speciality lunches. The village has a very small food market each Thursday morning, but for substantial grocery shopping, fuel etc, L’Eclerc on the western edge of Carcassonne is about 15 or so minutes away.
