North Cyprus is to be found at the northern end of the island of Cyprus. Due to problems between the Turkish Cypriot and Greek population the island of Cyprus was split in 1974, which culminated in a declaration in 1983 that the north was now independant.

Northern Cuprus is only recognised by Turkey. The European Union and the United Nations still only acknowledges the Republic of Cyprus for the entire country.

Northern Cyprus begins in the north east from the tip of the Karpass Peninsula and stretches to Morphou Bay west. The area of Cape Kormakitis stretches to the western most point. The village of Louroujina/Akıncılar is to the south.

There is a buffer zone controlled by the UN between Northern Cyprus and Nicosia. Nicosia is the largest city and is the capital of both areas.
